It’s true. Another story goes that the curator (Harry Raven) went to see Meshie in the zoo near the end of her life, after she’d been put in isolation for everyone’s safety. Demanding that the keeper let him enter the cage, Raven walked in boldly … and Meshie leapt into his arms, crying actual tears.
